Volvo EX90 Set to Land as Brand's New India Flagship
Volvo is bringing its flagship electric SUV, the EX90, to India this month, positioning it as the brand's new range-topper and its third EV in the country after the XC40 Recharge and the EX30. The model effectively takes over the flagship role from the outgoing combustion-powered XC90, sharing the same underlying platform.
Globally, the EX90 is offered with two battery and motor configurations. The larger option pairs a 106kWh battery with dual motors and all-wheel drive, producing a claimed 680bhp and 780Nm of torque, with Volvo quoting a range of up to 608km on a single charge. A smaller 92kWh single-motor, rear-wheel-drive version is also offered internationally, making 333bhp and 480Nm with a claimed range of around 565km.
Volvo hasn't yet confirmed which of these configurations — or what local specification — will make it to Indian showrooms, so exact power, range, and pricing figures for the India-spec car remain unconfirmed. Given its positioning, expect the EX90 to sit above the XC90 was priced at, competing with other large luxury electric SUVs entering the Indian market this year.
Why It Matters
The EX90 marks Volvo's clearest statement yet that its India range is going electric-first at the top end. Buyers cross-shopping large luxury SUVs will want to wait for official local specifications before comparing it against rivals, since global figures may not directly carry over to the India-spec car.
