Genesis GV90 Revealed: Coach Doors, Cinema Cabin, and a Direct Challenge to Rolls-Royce

Genesis has officially revealed the GV90, its largest and most expensive car to date — and the most technically ambitious product the Korean luxury brand has ever attempted. The GV90 is a full-size electric SUV built on Hyundai Motor Group's 800-volt IMA platform, positioned squarely against the Rolls-Royce Cullinan, Bentley Bentayga, and BMW X7. European pricing is expected to start above €150,000.
The most distinctive feature is structural: the GV90 eliminates the B-pillar entirely. Rear-hinged coach doors swing open in the opposite direction to the front doors, creating a fully open entry to the back seat with no pillar to navigate around. Achieving this while maintaining torsional rigidity at speed is a real engineering accomplishment — it puts the GV90 alongside the Rolls-Royce Spectre as one of very few production cars at any price that offers this. Inside, a cinema screen faces rear passengers with individually adjustable, heated, ventilated, and massage-equipped seats as standard. Battery capacity and official range figures are still unconfirmed; WLTP range is expected to exceed 500 km.
Why It Matters
Genesis has no India presence today, so the GV90 has no direct local relevance right now. But it matters as a signal: Hyundai Motor Group is serious enough about ultra-luxury EV territory to invest in genuine structural engineering novelties. Coach doors without a B-pillar is not a styling exercise — it requires real structural rethinking. If Genesis eventually enters India, the GV90 establishes what the brand is capable of at its absolute ceiling.
