Hyundai has officially revealed the fifth-generation Tucson, codenamed NX4e, and it is a clean break from the parametric-grille design that defined the previous generation. The 2027 Tucson adopts Hyundai's Art of Steel design language — the same visual direction already seen on the new Santa Fe and Kona — bringing a sharper, more upright, more angular stance to Hyundai's best-selling compact SUV. Wide fender flares, a planted body, a continuous LED strip across the nose, and a notably steeper tailgate angle characterise the exterior.

Inside, the bigger story is the software. The 2027 Tucson introduces Hyundai's Pleos operating system, which brings Gleo, Hyundai's AI voice assistant, to handle navigation, climate, media, and vehicle settings through natural language. Hyundai has kept physical controls for core functions alongside the screen layout — a deliberate choice that most buyers will appreciate over an all-touchscreen approach. On the powertrain side, Hyundai has confirmed that all variants in the fifth-generation range will draw on electricity in some form: the lineup covers hybrid, plug-in hybrid, and a full battery electric option. Specific output and range figures are expected closer to market launch, which begins in South Korea first.

Why It Matters for India

The Tucson has competed in India's premium compact SUV space for years, alongside the Volkswagen Tiguan and Skoda Karoq. India is expected to receive the fifth generation in 2027. Given Hyundai India's existing track record with PHEV powertrains, a plug-in hybrid variant for India is a realistic expectation — though nothing has been confirmed. The more interesting question is whether the full BEV variant makes it to India, which would put the Tucson EV directly in a segment that currently has few strong options. Watch for India-specific pricing and specification details in the months ahead.
